It has been a while.

I know. It has been way too long since I have posted. I have thought about it, I have started to post, but I have not finished one. Life has been very busy since last summer. We have had students here, I went back to school full time, and life gets busy.

School somehow went well last semester. I took a few different classes. I took some art classes, business classes, and a science class.
Last semester I took a photography class. It was film photography. I was disappointed at first when I found out we had to develop and print our own pictures. Then frustration kicked in while we were learning how to develop and print. I am very claustrophobic, so standing in a pitch dark closet trying to roll my film on a reel was maddening. Then, going into the dark room and trying to print a picture at just the right setting and putting it through the chemicals, washing it, and then taking it out into the light only to find out that the values are not right, or there are scratches on the film, yes. I wanted to give up by many times during the course. At the beginning of the class the teacher said that it was magical to watch the image appear on the photo paper when putting it in the developer.... I thought he was crazy. I told him it was more magical to hit playback on a digital camera and see the image instantly. Going through the class and learning more about photography, I came out with a real appreciation for film photography. I love Photoshop, but it was really something to get a print just right. I still prefer digital, but film photography somehow had a charm to it! I'm thankful that I was able to take the class and appreciate film, and to also apply what I learned to digital photography.

I can't believe that February is half-way gone. Christmas was so much fun, January was refreshing, and February has been busy! Some pictures of the last little while will be coming soon!

Your post reminded me of a graphics art class that I took in high school. We took pictures of images to make a silkscreen and we had to go in the darkroom and develop them. Yes, I experienced claustrophobia and frayed nerves in trying to get the "perfect" picture! Photography has come a loooooong way, hasn't it? Learning these basic skills will definitely help you take better pictures. Two great things about digital photography? The ability to instantly see your picture and store TONS of photos on your memory card ~
